LAT Report on Sheryl Mase's The Michigan eLibrary (MeL): Growing Pains and Gains
Computers in Libraries 2006
Michigan eLibrary (MeL) is an ambitious project undertaken by the Library of Michigan to provide all Michigan residents with "access to the information they need, when they need it, and in the format they desire." Sheryl Mase, the Director of Library Development & Data Services at the Library of Michigan, explained that it is unique because it is a multi-type system (representing public, private, academic, and school libraries), in real-time, and connecting many different types of library automation software applications. In addition to a statewide catalog and interlibrary loan service, it incorporates separate components for Internet resources, databases, digitization projects, and a search gateway. It started with 22 libraries and is projected to expand to 550 libraries over the next five years. You can visit and learn more about MeL through the links below.
